Two Euripus consimilis face one another across the width of the box. The painted courtesan is a mimic — the female wears the costume of a toxic crow butterfly and is left alone for it, while the male is smaller, darker, marked with a scatter of white and a wash of rust along the hindwing. Setting the pair together makes the difference obvious in a way a field guide never quite manages.
The ground is mixed media: torn book paper, gold leaf worked into the seams, and a low haze of india ink to push the corners into shadow. Dried statice and seed heads fill the lower third.
Both specimens are farm-raised and were pinned after a natural death.
Acid-free foam backing, hand-finished ground layer, stainless steel entomological pins, acid-free spacer and UV-filtering acrylic glazing behind a continuous dust seal. Hanging hardware fitted before sealing. Signed, dated and annotated with the species and its source on the reverse.

Hang out of direct sunlight, in a room held roughly between 45–55% relative humidity and 18–22 °C. Dust the outside with a dry cloth only — never spray anything at the frame. Check the base of the box for fine powder four times a year.
