Aphrissa statira is a small, unfussy, relentlessly cheerful butterfly — a wash of lemon and cream that in life travels in enormous migratory columns across Central America. Pinned alone against a dark ground it stops being one of thousands and becomes a single, particular thing.

Dried marigold heads sit low in the box, close in tone to the wings so the whole piece hums in one narrow band of yellow. It is the warmest thing in the shop.

8×6 box, farm-raised specimen.

Acid-free foam backing, hand-finished ground layer, stainless steel entomological pins, acid-free spacer and UV-filtering acrylic glazing behind a continuous dust seal. Hanging hardware fitted before sealing. Signed, dated and annotated with the species and its source on the reverse.
